As great a time as I've had at the movies this summer, basking in the glow of giant blockbuster after giant blockbuster, watching The Way, Way Back last weekend was a relief. A barely average waterpark stood in place of the massive action set pieces I had grown accustomed to. A teenager from a broken home struggling to find a shred of self-confidence was the substitute for the oft-used extinction of civilization as we know it stake.
